The luminous Melissa Barrett, whose stunning poems “Homesick” and “Mock Chlorophyll” appear in the most recent Meridian, has been named a finalist for the Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship.
The competition is sponsored by the Poetry Foundation and is open to U.S. poets between the ages of 21 and 31. This year, there are thirty-one finalists, from which list five poets will earn fellowships of $25,800. The five fellowship recipients will be announced September 1, but for now, let’s give Melissa a hearty congratulations, and if you’ve not read her contributions to Meridian 33, now is the perfect opportunity. “Mock Chlorophyll” is about the first man executed by the electric chair! How can you turn that down?!
Congratulations, Melissa! We’re big fans.
